Franklin Ratliff
2013-14 | Canon

This series marks my earliest exploration into themes of family and ritual. It coincides with my time studying abroad in Italy where I was heavily influenced by the emotions and dramatic light of Baroque painting. For these works, art was a ritual through which I canonized my connection to significant family members and friends. I also began to experiment with blurring parts of the image, something that would continue to run through series that followed.

In cases where a work did not perfectly fit the themes of a series, I placed that work according to date. I placed these less related works at the bottom of the page.
